Night Photography – HDR

The following images are the result of my experimenting with High-Dynamic-Range images (HDR) at night.  All images were taken in and around the 2nd week of February 2008 in Warrensburg, Missouri.  I had a great time creating these images, although I’m sure I’ve entered into the early stages of hypothermia and frostbite as the weather at 3 a.m. in Mid-Missouri is bitter and unforgiving!  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!  Feel free to leave comments as well as visit my flickr slideshow of these images and another five from the sequence.

train-station.jpg
This is the train station, visitors’ center, and city council of warrensburg.  It’s a small building hidden in a valley of downtown Warrensburg, but I always find myself drawn to it when I’m out and about taking pictures.

tower.jpg
Here is the UCM Friendship Tower – a gift that our largest sister school in Maustricht, Netherlands donated to us.  It’s become somewhat of an icon for the University of Central Missouri.

Honestly, I’m not sure whose artwork this is, but being outside one of the entrances to grinstead (the UCM photography and graphic arts building) I never fail to admire it.  I think it looks even better with the different lights provided by the night time.  I’ll have to be sure and find out who created it!

library1.jpg
Another icon of UCM is our new(er) James C. Kirkpatrick Library.  Obviously artwork in itself with the awesome archetecture!  The red sky was caused by a low ceiling and a bit of light pollution.  This is one of my favorite of the series.

dockery.jpg
The Dockery building on the UCM campus is one of the smallest, but oldest buildings still in regular use.  It’s dwarfed by the administration building and Ward Edwards (formerly the UCM library), but hard to forget with the distinctive castle-like cones at the main entrance.
